For Gilliane Nadeau, operating Uncorked Tours is all about pleasant surprises – from seeing a hometown crowd walk through the door, to dazzling the visitors who are new to our cultural gem on the Bay of Fundy.

“It’s humbling to see how wowed visitors are by our city – they always remark on how clean it is, the high tides, the access to historic places. People really love it here.”

Taking people on tours of wineries and breweries throughout the city (and beyond) has won Gilliane more than a few fans. Her memorable tours have helped her grow a provincial brand, from right here at home in Saint John. “Over the past three years, I’ve seen a shift in tourism. Visitors don’t just want to see things — they want experiences and that’s what our tours are all about. I wanted to show people a good time, but I didn’t expect the brand to grow across the province.”

Being based in Saint John certainly helps. “We’re friendly, we’re fun, and the city is walkable. There’s a lot packed into the uptown core. Saint John has a unique combination of Victorian and industrial elements along with natural vistas—we’re like nothing visitors have seen before.”

When it comes to investing in tourism, Gilliane sees it as a no-brainer. “Tourism is a vital economic driver given the amount of Saint Johners employed in hospitality, and the businesses that exist through strong partnerships in this industry. Saint John has an amazing story to tell — we have a good opportunity and a greater responsibility to share it.”

We’ll toast to that, Gilliane.
